VMA Beauty 2016

While most consider the VMAs among the most outrageous of awards shows, it happens to be one of my favourites for a few reasons. First of all, it marks the end a summer of GREAT music and the return to my favourite season, fall. Second, stars are dressed more playfully and less safe than most other awards shows. And third, most of the looks are geared towards fall, which means tons of beauty inspiration can be drawn from them!

The trend that gets me the most excited may be the one that is the most obvious… but I can’t help it. I’m a sucker for a vampy statement lip! It was even one of my resolutions to wear more interesting lip colours. So here we are:

I was also very pleased to see the amount of glowy skin on the carpet, as I myself just picked up Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop highlighter and am loving it. Seriously its disco-ball glowy in the best way possible and the formula is incredible. It will definitely be a constant for my nights out at school, especially while I still have a bit of summer colour.

Now, the final trend is something I haven’t tried myself yet but have actually see all over the place for fall. Such a different, interesting take on a smoky eye by using warm fall toned shadows. The red/auburn/orangey eye looks like a hard look to pull off but I’ve seen it look incredible on several skin tones. I’ll have to try it out and let you guys know!

What did you guys think? What was the best look of the VMAs? Did you watch?

Kendall Jenner is the September Vogue Cover Girl

… and she looks flawless.

As always surrounding the Kardashians, there is a lot of controversy surrounding this cover, as well as most of Kendall’s work. The September issue of Vogue has long been sacred ground as THE issue of the year featuring the model or celebrity of the moment. Last year’s Beyonce cover was absolutely gorgeous and the defining trophy of her stellar year. But does being the new face of Estee Lauder warrant the biggest cover of her young career (and life)? And more importantly does this shift in covers from models to celebrities compromise the credibility and stand-alone fame of the most notedly important fashion bible of all time?

She has been known to defend herself in the media for the argument over her modelling career’s credibility. Some people think the likes of her as well as others; Bella and Gigi Hadid, and Hailey Baldwin (today’s IT girls) as models that haven’t quite earned their spot at the top. And maybe for some thats true. However, these girls are growing up in a world much different from the supermodels of yesterday. Under scrutiny from a young age, Kendall and crew have built themselves something much more valuable than a portfolio of modelling photos. In fact, even those supermodels of yesterday cannot begin to fathom the amount of social media power and recognition that these girls have. Not only are they the faces you see on billboards and runways, but they’re the ones whose snapchat stories you devour alongside your other friends’ stories. Thats what makes them different and that makes them all-powerful.

Give the Vogue article a read and decide for yourself. And if an article isn’t a large enough judge of character, watch Keeping Up, check out her Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. Decide for yourself as Kendall has given you all the power to. In my opinion, someone who can maintain all those platforms deserves the prefix “Super-” all in itself. Bring on the new realm of super modelling where being on top takes much more than just a pretty face.

What do you guys think? Did Kendall deserve the cover? Are you going to pick up the issue?
